Blind Jack Russell Terrier And Guide Dog Pal Looking For Home Together, Because They Can’t Cope Apart

Meet Glenn and Buzz, a pair of elderly dogs found abandoned together in a sea tunnel in Durham about three weeks ago. The smaller Glenn is a Jack Russell terrier, while Buzz is a Staffordshire bull terrier. What makes their relationship extraordinary is that Glenn is permanently blind and Buzz acts as his guide dog.

“Buzz acts as Glenn’s eyes and it’s as simple as that. Glenn gets his confidence from Buzz,” says Sue Bielby, a staff member at the Stray Aid Center in Coxhoe, UK, that’s currently caring for the dogs.

“They stay together at all times and Glenn follows Buzz wherever he goes. Wherever one goes the other one follows,” John Bielby, center manager, adds.

Buzz also directs Glenn to his food and helps him to his bed.

“Glenn doesn’t need him outside where he can run around, but he needs Buzz inside the kennels to stop him banging into things,” says Diane Humphrey, a supervisor at the center.

Indeed, the pair are quite inseparable, so the center is hoping that they will be adopted together into a quiet home, preferably by someone retired.

“If they are separated even for a few minutes they both bark and become distressed so they would need to have a loving home together,” says Sue.

“They are a unique pair and we need to see they go to a good home,” John adds.

The center believes that both dogs were abandoned because of their advanced age.

“We think they have been together for a long time but we don’t know for sure, they both seem to be a similar age. If they are apart for long they start to cry and whine,” Diane says.

“They have behaved well in the kennels and they are both quite playful,” John adds.

Until the center finds a home for both dogs, it is quite happy to look after them.

“They are both lovely little dogs, they are good with people,” says Diane.
