Gunfire breaking out during the 2026 White House Correspondent’s Dinner threw one of Washington’s most watched gatherings into confusion and panic.
President Donald Trump and several top officials were rushed out within seconds as Secret Service agents moved to secure the room.
Video from inside the Washington Hilton shows the evening moments before the disruption, with more than 2,000 attendees seated and unaware of the danger about to unfold.
Law enforcement sources identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California. Authorities allege he pushed past a security checkpoint at the hotel carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
During the incident, one Secret Service agent was struck in the chest, but the bullet-resistant vest prevented serious injury.
Afterwards, body language analyst Darren Stanton reviewed the footage from the moment shots were heard, focusing on how Trump appeared to respond in real time.
Darren said: “‘He was in discussion with someone at the time the shots went off and what was interesting was there wasn’t the slightest flinch from him.
“He either has nerves of steel or just wasn’t aware of it.”
He added that Trump seemed not to register what was happening until security personnel were physically close to him.
He continued: “The first movement he made that suggested he knew something was going on was when the Secret Service got to him.
“In other videos I have seen that were closer up, he again didn’t react at all. This definitely shows he was totally unaware, because no matter how strong you are, you jump at a gunshot.
“Even when the Secret Service got to him, he just furrowed his brow in confusion. He seemed to have no idea there were any gunshots.”

Allen was reportedly brought to the ground without injury and is scheduled to appear in federal court today to face firearm and assault charges.
In a later press conference, Trump described Allen as a ‘sick guy’ with a ‘lot of hatred in his heart’ and said investigators had found a manifesto he characterized as ‘strongly anti-Christian.’
Additional reporting claims Allen sent a message to family members shortly before the attack, voicing anger at the administration and saying he intended to target officials across all ranks.
Trump also said the dinner will be held again within the next 30 days, insisting the rescheduled event will be “bigger than ever.”
He noted that the night could have gone differently in another way as well, saying he had been preparing remarks he later decided would be inappropriate under the circumstances.
He said: “I was all set to really rip it and I said to my people, this would really be the most inappropriate speech to give – so I’ll have to save it.
“I don’t know if I can ever be as rough as I was going to be tonight.
“I think I’ll probably be very boring and nice next time. We’re going to have a great event.”
