A plane had to do an emergency landing in Faro, Portugal due to a passenger’s unbearable stench.
The Boeing 737 Transavia flight traveling from the Netherlands was heading to Gran Canaria in Spain. But passengers were fainting and vomiting because of one man’s strong body odor.
The man reportedly smelled like he ‘hadn’t washed in weeks’ and the flight attendants were forced to quarantine the man inside the plane’s bathroom. But even with their efforts to contain the man’s overwhelming stench, passengers became so distressed that the flight crew decided to make an emergency landing.
When the plane landed in Faro in southern Portugal, the man was escorted off the flight and taken to a bus by medical personnel. He reportedly had a medical condition resulting in him having a really strong odor.
One Belgian passenger on the same flight said, “It was like he hadn’t washed himself for several weeks. Several passengers got sick and had to puke.”
Though the Transavia flight confirmed that it made the emergency landing due to ‘medical reasons’, it wasn’t clear whether the reason was related to the man himself or the other passengers falling ill due to his intense smell.
A Transavia spokesman said, “The aeroplane diverted because of medical reasons, but it is indeed right that he smelled quite a bit.”
This is not the first time that a Transavia plane had to make an emergency landing due to smelly incidents. In February, a Transavia flight traveling from Dubai to Amsterdam reportedly had to make an unscheduled stop at the Vienna International airport because an older man did not stop farting despite repeated requests from other passengers for him to stop.
