Newly released dashcam video shows the moment California Highway Patrol officers placed Britney Spears in handcuffs after her March DUI arrest — and the first thing she asked as she was led away was telling.
“Wait, did you guys take my phone?” They hadn’t — it was reportedly still inside her purse.
A CBS News investigation report says officers spotted Spears drifting across lanes on U.S.101 before initiating a traffic stop. The report claims it took about 15 seconds for her to respond and pull over. When she eventually lowered her window, the officer noted a clear smell of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle.
What followed, according to the report, quickly escalated.
Spears is said to have argued with officers for roughly 10 minutes before complying with orders to step out of the car. She told police she “did not like” being instructed to exit, and said she was concerned about passing traffic. Although officers offered to move her vehicle around the corner for safety, she declined and instead tried to negotiate.
“I’ll make you food or lasagna, whatever you want. I have a pool,” she told them.
She also maintained she was “totally fine” and able to drive.
Once she did get out, the report describes her as visibly unsteady, with speech that was “rapid and slurred.” Officers also wrote that she displayed “dramatic mood swings” during the encounter, and at times used a British accent.

Spears reportedly told officers she’d had a mimosa about six hours earlier and didn’t believe she was intoxicated. She then allegedly told an officer: “I could probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you. I’m an angel.”
She also said she had taken Lamictal, a medication commonly used in the treatment of bipolar disorder.
During a search of the vehicle, police reportedly found a bottle of Adderall that was not prescribed to Spears, along with a wine glass in the front cupholder.
Two breathalyser tests administered around an hour after the stop registered 0.06% and 0.05% — under California’s 0.08% legal limit. Blood was also drawn for drug testing, though those results were not included in the report.
Spears was released the morning after the arrest.
A representative told CBS News the incident was “unfortunate” and “completely inexcusable.” Spears later checked into rehab voluntarily in April. Earlier this month, she pleaded guilty to reckless driving, received 12 months’ probation, and avoided jail time.
The arrest also comes amid earlier concerns about her driving. In October 2025, video circulated online that allegedly showed Spears driving erratically outside a restaurant in Thousand Oaks. Witnesses claimed she nearly struck a pedestrian, though she denied it was her and said the driver was a “lookalike.”
