Ahmed Al-Ahmed has sent a heartfelt message to those who contributed to his fundraiser following his courageous act of confronting a gunman.
Ahmed has been hailed as a hero at Bondi Beach after he managed to disarm a gunman who was targeting people celebrating Hannukah in Sydney on December 14.
A video capturing Ahmed’s brave attempt to tackle and disarm the shooter went viral, leading to widespread admiration for the 43-year-old Syrian-born fruit vendor.
Although he succeeded in his heroic effort, Ahmed was shot twice and is currently hospitalized, undergoing surgery for his wounds.
His bravery resonated with people worldwide, prompting a fundraiser in his honor.
Zachary Dereniowski, an influencer who helped organize the fundraiser, recently visited Ahmed in the hospital to present him with a check totaling $2.5 million. 
In a video posted on Zachary’s TikTok page, Ahmed initially questioned if he truly deserved the money before delivering a moving speech.
Zachary reassured him that he deserved ‘every penny’ and then asked Ahmed what message he had for those who had donated.
From his hospital bed, Ahmed expressed, “To stand with each other, all human beings and forget everything bad behind the [past] and keep going to save life. Save lives.”
“When I do save the people, I do it from the heart because it was a nice day, everyone enjoying, celebrating with their kids. Woman, man, teenager, all of this, everyone was happy and they deserve, they deserve to enjoy and its their right.”
“This country, best country in the world, the best country in the world but we’re not going to stand and keep watching, enough is enough.”
“God protect Australia. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie.”
The online community was touched by Ahmed’s heartfelt words, with many continuing to praise his actions.
