Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Daughter Officially Cleared to Remove Pitt from Her Last Name

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Shiloh, has officially been granted her name change.

The 18-year-old, originally named Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, submitted a request to remove ‘Pitt’ from her surname on her 18th birthday this May.

As per court documents obtained by People magazine, Shiloh’s request has been approved, and she will now legally be known as Shiloh Jolie.

In California, to change one’s legal name, four steps must be followed: filing a petition, publishing a four-week notice in a newspaper, attending a hearing (if necessary), and obtaining a decree if the request is approved by a judge.

In July, Shiloh announced in the Los Angeles Times her intent to change her name to ‘Shiloh Jolie.’ According to California law, a judge can approve the petition after it has been published in a newspaper’s legal notice section for one month.

However, her petition faced a delay due to an incomplete background check, postponing the hearing.

“Unfortunately, the court was unable to complete the background check ahead of today’s hearing, so the hearing was rescheduled for August 19,” stated her lawyer, Peter Levine, in a statement obtained by People at the time.

“Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk, and because of clerical error, Shiloh’s hearing has been continued to a new date,” Levine added, clarifying the delay in the process.

According to a report by People, Shiloh’s request has now been approved.

Jolie initiated divorce proceedings from Pitt in 2016. Together, they share six children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, both 16.

In May, reports surfaced that Vivienne also chose to drop ‘Pitt’ from her last name in a Playbill credit for the Broadway musical “The Outsiders,” produced by her mother.

Following Shiloh’s initial petition in May, a source close to Pitt confirmed that the actor was ‘aware’ of the change.

“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” the source said. “The reminders that he’s lost his children are, of course, not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them.”
