Britney Spears recently shared an unexpected confession about her journey as a mother on her social media.
Over the years, Spears has been notably open about her personal life, including her complicated relationship with her sons, Sean, 19, and Jayden, 18.
The pop star shares her children with her former husband, Kevin Federline, and they have been separated since 2007.
Following the split, the boys have primarily resided with Federline. Spears has expressed that there was a period during which she was entirely ‘cut off’ from them.
In a recent Instagram post, which has been subsequently removed, Spears revealed there was a three-year span where she did not see her children.
Accompanying a nude image of herself, the 43-year-old singer noted in the caption: “We’re just people so fragile and human the hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years.”
She further expressed: “I was cut off from calling or texting and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears its weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it.”
Spears married Sam Asghari in 2022 but the couple parted ways two years later.
The singer continued to discuss her healing process, likening her current feelings to being ‘hungry again like a child or baby’.
“I’m so hungry it hurts and when I eat its like its my first time ever eating in my life,” Spears remarked.
She also noted: “I believe although I loved my home there is waaay too much abuse and trauma in there…. Today I thank jesus for food it feel like telling others NO… Owning my body… and letting them REALLY know where I’m from.”
The caption has since been removed from the image where she is scantily clad.
Meanwhile, Asghari has responded to her remarks about their marriage being a ‘fake distraction’.
In a statement to PEOPLE through his representative, he commented: “Our marriage was very real to me. It may have been short, but we were together for seven years.
“I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”
Spears’ open discussion about her children follows her recent reconnection with her younger son.
A source informed Page Six last November that she and Jayden had been ‘spending a lot of time together’, although Federline’s attorney stated that he was unaware of any such reconciliation.
