Fans were taken aback by Britney Spears’ unexpected announcement, which coincides with her reunion with her youngest son.
The pop star, 42, has been estranged from 18-year-old Jayden Federline for years, following custody loss of her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline after their 2007 divorce.
In the years since their separation, Spears has reportedly paid about $5 million in child support to Federline for their sons, Sean, 19, and Jayden.
Reports now suggest that Spears will cease child support payments when Jayden finishes high school this month, and she is taking steps to rekindle their relationship.
Spears and Federline wed in 2004, and due to Spears’ personal challenges in recent years, Federline gained full custody of their children in 2008.
MailOnline cites a source close to Spears, stating: “The amount of money Britney has given Kevin for the two boys is extraordinary and it is enough for any man to support an entire family, which is what she believes he has done.”
According to TMZ, Jayden has relocated from Hawaii to California and is working on mending his relationship with his mother.
Page Six quotes a source saying: “They have been spending a lot of time together.”
In response, Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told Page Six: “If there has been a reconciliation it’s news to Kevin.”
The attorney further explained that Jayden and Federline frequently communicate, and reconciliation with Spears hasn’t been discussed.
In addition, Spears has plans for a personal move that caught fans off guard.
On November 12, Spears revealed in a now-deleted Instagram post her intention to relocate to Mexico, as shown in fan-shared screenshots.
Reddit users expressed surprise over this decision, with many questioning her choice of destination.
One user commented: “Why not move to Hawaii where her sons live?”
Another remarked: “For the negative press she gets in the US, I wonder why she has not moved earlier.”
Another added: “How will this help that though? It won’t.”
