Bruce Springsteen has made his disapproval of Donald Trump abundantly clear with a pointed message that firmly establishes him as a prominent critic of the former president.
The renowned musician has previously voiced his opposition to Trump’s policies, particularly those concerning immigration and the activities of ICE since Trump took office. During a concert earlier this year, Springsteen shared his thoughts on the current state of America: “Now, there’s some very weird, strange and dangerous s**t going on out there right now. In America, they are persecuting people for using their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. This is happening now.
“In America, the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world’s poorest children to sickness and death. This is happening now.”
Springsteen made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, where he subtly commented on the current political climate in the U.S.
“Bruce, you have been .. I think you have spoken very beautifully, I think, about the state of this country and the world, and I was wondering .. if you had anything positive to share with us, to inspire us? Because not too many people do,” Kimmel inquired of the seasoned musician.
Springsteen responded: “Oh man, you put me on the spot now. 50 years I’ve been kind of a musical ambassador for America around the world and I played, you know .. I have this song, Land of Hope and Dreams, which is kind of a prayer to the country and I’ve played it, we’ve played it every night to, like I said, millions of people.
“And I know for a fact that that’s how many people around the world still see our country. Not as a land of fear, not as a land of divisiveness, not of government censorship, you know, not of hatred, you know. And I basically believe that that’s an America that’s worth fighting for.”
Recently, Trump and Springsteen have exchanged comments on social media, with the “Dancing in the Dark” singer labeling the Trump administration as “corrupt and incompetent” during a concert in Manchester.
“If Congress had any guts, he’d be consigned to the trash heap of history,” Springsteen remarked.
In response, Trump posted on Truth Social: “I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States.”
