Bruce Willis’ Wife Explains Decision to Live Separately Following Dementia Diagnosis

Bruce Willis’ wife has once again addressed her decision regarding their living arrangements.

The 70-year-old actor was diagnosed with dementia in 2022, with the family choosing to publicly share this information a year later. Since then, his family has been actively updating fans about his health. Willis shares his life with his current wife, Emma Heming Willis, and maintains a strong relationship with his ex-wife, Demi Moore, the mother of his three daughters. He also has two daughters with Emma.

Emma recently disclosed that she and Bruce no longer reside under the same roof. Bruce now lives in a one-story house close to their family home, where he receives full-time care.

“It is a house that is filled with love, and warmth, and care, and laughter,” Emma described his new residence. She added, “And it’s been beautiful to see that, to see how many of Bruce’s friends continue to show up for him, and they bring in life, and fun.”

Emma, who has been married to the actor since 2009, found the decision challenging but believes it reflects what Bruce would want for their daughters.

“He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs,” she mentioned.

Despite receiving criticism for this choice, Emma is firm in her decision.

“We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs,” she explained to PEOPLE.

This arrangement allows their children to enjoy activities like playdates and sleepovers without the need for caution.

Emma remarked, “Everything just feels a lot calmer, more at ease now.”

She emphasized that dementia affects families in various ways, and each family must decide what best suits their situation.

“Dementia plays out differently in everyone’s home and you have to do what’s right for your family dynamic and what’s right for your person,” Emma reflected.

Although it is a heartbreaking situation, she finds solace in knowing that this decision has broadened Bruce’s world.
