Caitlyn Jenner has made her voice heard from a bomb shelter in Israel amid ongoing missile strikes from Iran.
The former Olympic champion found herself stranded in the country after Israel launched an offensive against Iran on Thursday, June 12.
Jenner, a transgender woman, had traveled to Israel to participate in the Pride Month parade in Tel Aviv, which was set for Friday. However, the event was canceled due to safety concerns when Iran retaliated with attacks on the city.
As flights were grounded, Jenner became stuck in Israel. On social media, she announced that she was taking refuge in a bomb shelter for safety.
“We are back in the shelters in Tel Aviv. This looks like it is the third wave of attack from Iran,” Jenner shared.
The 75-year-old, who is a parent to six children, was reportedly sipping wine and texting family members as missiles struck near her hotel in Tel Aviv, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“Please pray,” she requested in a message. “I’m holding up okay.”
When queried about the loudness of the bombs, she replied: “Yes.”
Inside the shelter, Jenner took a selfie with influencer Regev Gur, holding a glass of red wine.
Gur added a caption to the photo: “What were you doing with the alarms? Because I’m drinking wine with Caitlyn.”
Before becoming stranded, Jenner had shared numerous photos from her trip to Israel, visiting iconic locations such as Kibbutz Be’eri, Nova Festival site, and the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City.
In one caption, she wrote: “Yesterday in Jerusalem. My heart is with Israel now and forever. Evil shall not prevail!” with Israeli and US flag emojis.
Jenner had also shown support for Israel amidst its ongoing conflict with Palestine, stating: “I am excited to share that I will be in Israel this week. I’m visiting the resilient people of Israel as the nation continues to recover and restore its place in the Middle East. Stay tuned!”
However, her plans were disrupted, and she posted an image of missiles streaking across the night sky over Tel Aviv.
“‘Quiet’ night in Tel Aviv. Pray for us all,” she captioned the photo. “We will prevail. I am happy to stand with Israel today, now more than ever.”
According to reports, members of Jenner’s family expressed how eager she was to attend the LGBTQ+ parade.
“She was very excited to be there for the parade,” a family member told the Daily Mail. “This was a bucket list item. It was supposed to be a great time.”
The missile strikes in Israel resulted in the destruction of several buildings and numerous injuries, as the country’s Dome air defense system was breached.
Footage from the city shows rockets being intercepted over the Tel Aviv skyline, with air raid sirens echoing throughout the streets.
Jenner has reportedly been in touch with the American Embassy, which advised her to remain sheltered in a windowless area near her hotel.
