Veteran Trump supporter Caitlyn Jenner says she had to seek the president’s help after a major policy shift on transgender documentation created what she described as a personal “safety” concern.
The Olympic gold medallist said her passport renewal came back with a male sex marker, despite her having previously updated her documents to reflect her gender identity. Jenner tied the issue to the administration’s approach to federal identification rules affecting transgender people.
Speaking during an extended appearance on the Tomi Lahren is Fearless podcast, Jenner, 72, explained that the designation put her in an uncomfortable position after more than a decade living as a woman.
“Today, documentation is extremely important. Every time you turn around, you gotta show ID, ID, ID,” she said. “So somebody in my position, who has transitioned, I worked very, very hard. I worked with a law firm to make sure everything was changed from ‘M’ to ‘F,’ right down to my birth certificate.”

Jenner said having accurate paperwork has been essential for travel and day-to-day life, noting that she had previously been able to move through airports and international borders without issue.
“All my documentation was right, my passport, my global entry — I traveled around the world.”
But after her passport expired and she submitted it for renewal, Jenner said the State Department returned the new document with her sex listed as male. She added that she included a physical copy of her amended birth certificate as supporting documentation.
“I did everything,” she told Lahren, “and they sent it back, ‘M,’ they didn’t change it.”
She said the situation left her unsure of what to do next, framing it as more than an inconvenience.
“What do I do?” she said. “This is a safety factor.”
Jenner has publicly backed Trump for years, including campaigning for him in 2016. However, she said the change to documentation policy became an immediate problem when the administration moved early in 2025 to limit how gender markers can be recorded on federal IDs.

Trump’s executive order stated the government would recognise only two “immutable” sexes, male and female. The order argued: “Across the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women.”
It adds: “This is wrong.”
Under the policy, federal documentation would reflect sex as defined by the administration, rather than allowing updates based on gender identity. The order also described sex as fixed “at conception,” a claim that has drawn criticism given the complexity of fetal development and how biological sex characteristics emerge.
Jenner told Lahren she tried to flag her experience directly to Trump while at his Florida resort, explaining that she wrote to him about how the shift was affecting her and others.
“I was in Mar-a-Lago two months ago, [and] wrote a letter explaining all of this to him, how it’s affecting me and a lot of other people,” she said.
According to Jenner, Trump wasn’t present that weekend, though she said she attempted to leave the letter with staff.
“Unfortunately, he wasn’t there that weekend. The Secret Service guy said he could get it to him, put it on his desk and stuff,” Jenner said.
She added that she has yet to receive any response.
“I haven’t heard from him. He’s kind of busy right now. “
Even so, Jenner insisted her support for Trump remains intact, saying the documentation issue is not her main political priority.
She said: “My gender marker is not big on the issue, OK? So, I get that, and I’m not blaming him whatsoever. I love the guy, and I love what he’s doing.”
