Cameron Diaz reveals she ignores one basic rule of human hygiene

Cameron Diaz recently shared a personal hygiene practice—or lack thereof—that might surprise many, but she insists it’s all part of embracing a more natural lifestyle. At 51, Diaz is widely recognized for her memorable roles in big-screen hits like “Annie,” “Sex Tape,” and “Gambit.” Despite her fame, she has stepped back from the limelight in recent years to focus on personal growth and well-being.

In a candid conversation with Michelle Visage on the BBC Rule Breakers podcast in 2022, Diaz opened up about her relaxed approach to skincare, which is a departure from the conventional beauty routines many adhere to.

“The last eight years, girl – I’m like wild. I’m like a wild animal, like a beast!” she exclaimed, reflecting on her new-found freedom from the societal pressures that once dominated her life. Diaz discussed the harsh realities of constant scrutiny under Hollywood’s unforgiving spotlight, where she often found herself comparing her appearance to unrealistic beauty standards.

In her pursuit of a more authentic and self-accepting lifestyle, Diaz has all but abandoned her skincare regimen. “I literally do nothing. I like never wash my face,” she confessed. “Twice a month if I’m lucky, I’ll be like, ‘Oh, I better put this on. One time works, right?’ Like is that all I have to do? I’m just not in that place right now where I put any energy.”

Reflecting on her past, Diaz recalled the daily rigmarole of sitting in the makeup chair, an experience she now describes as “toxic.” The relentless self-scrutiny was damaging, leading her to question why she was so critical of her own appearance. “You just start to pick yourself apart,” she said. “And you’re like, ‘Why am I sitting here being so mean to myself?’ My body’s strong, my body’s capable. Why am I going to talk down to it? Why am I going to be mean to it when it’s carried me this far?”

Today, Diaz is at peace with her appearance, unburdened by the toxic beauty standards that once weighed her down. “I don’t care. Literally, the last thing I think about on a daily basis – like maybe not at all during the day – is what I look like,” she proudly stated. This shift toward self-acceptance and simplicity in her beauty routine signifies Diaz’s broader transformation away from the external pressures of celebrity and toward a more grounded, authentic self.
