Candace Owens has responded after Erika Kirk accused her of promoting conspiracy theories about her husband’s death.
Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative political commentator, often expressed controversial views on topics ranging from women’s reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ issues to gun ownership and the US Civil Rights Act.
On September 10, during his Turning Point USA tour at Utah Valley University, Kirk was tragically shot and killed by a single bullet.
A suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, with authorities believing he acted alone.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, tensions have risen between Kirk’s wife, Erika, and Candace Owens, a fellow conservative who described their friendship as being like ‘brother and sister’.
Owens has repeatedly suggested that the government may have withheld information about the assassination and even hinted at possible foreign involvement.
Additionally, Owens has made unsubstantiated claims about financial misconduct within Turning Point, where Erika serves as CEO.
Erika, the 37-year-old widow, has now publicly urged Owens to cease promoting these conspiracy theories, which in turn prompted a strong response from Owens.
On her YouTube channel, Owens criticized Erika for what she described as ‘Meghan Markle syndrome,’ referring to a perceived desire for privacy and publicity on one’s own terms.
This remark followed a CBS News interview where Erika was asked what she wanted to say to Owens and others making allegations about Kirk’s death. Her response was: “Stop. That’s it. That’s all I have to say. Stop.”
In another interview with Fox News, Erika addressed those spreading conspiracy theories, stating: “Come after me. Call me names. I don’t care. Call me what you want. Go down that rabbit hole. Whatever.”
“But when you target my family, my Turning Point USA family, my ‘Charlie Kirk Show’ family.
“When you attack the people I love and profit significantly from every episode by portraying them as complicit? No.”
She added: “This is righteous anger because this is not okay.
“It’s not healthy. This is a mind virus. Yes, I believe in our judicial system. I do. We have a dedicated team working on this — excuse my French — but this is not okay.”
Owens continued her critique in a podcast released this week, stating that Erika’s Fox News interview ‘completely missed the mark.’
“None of this is passing the vibe check,” Owens stated. “You are not changing my mind about the fact that something strange happened that day and that TPUSA is acting suspiciously because you give an impassioned plea and speak about Nehemiah on Fox News.”
