Carrot Top Set to Make Dramatic Stage Return After Suicide Attempt

Carrot Top is returning to his Las Vegas stage next month following a suicide attempt and hospitalization.

The prop comedian, born Scott Christopher Thompson, 61, has daily shows scheduled to resume Oct. 19 at the Luxor Hotel and Casino, according to the venue’s website, which last updated the calendar Thursday morning. Thompson has headlined the Strip residency since 2005, building it into one of the longest-running comedy shows in Vegas history.

Thompson was hospitalized Sept. 18 after being found unconscious near the pool in his backyard during a welfare check. Police transported him in critical condition. His manager had requested the check shortly after a phone call in which Thompson expressed distress about sexual misconduct allegations set to be published, then texted “done” after hanging up, according to a police report.

Thompson remained hospitalized until approximately Sept. 26, when he was discharged to recover at home.

He made his first public appearance since the incident on Oct. 4, attending services at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Las Vegas. He appeared in good spirits while leaving alone. The following Sunday, he returned to the same church with his mother, Dona Wood.

The hospitalization unfolded amid Thompson’s ongoing legal fight with former opener Brian Evans, who previously worked the Luxor residency. Court documents show Evans allegedly threatened to release a sexually explicit video of Thompson unless he received a $500,000 settlement.

Evans denied the allegations in a statement.

“I never threatened — ever — to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement,” he said.

Evans also claimed the video in question had been destroyed long before the dispute escalated.

“The video was deleted a long time ago,” he added. “I’m sorry that Scott apparently did something to hurt himself.”

The Sept. 18 incident marked a devastating turn in a career that Thompson has sustained through physical comedy, elaborate props, and relentless audience interaction for nearly two decades on the Strip. The Luxor residency has survived multiple entertainment eras and Strip transformations, with Thompson becoming as recognizable a Vegas fixture as the hotel’s own pyramid architecture.

Thompson has not spoken publicly about the suicide attempt or his recovery beyond the two church appearances. A representative was not immediately available for comment on the return to performing.

Evans’s alleged extortion attempt and the threatened publication of allegations preceded the crisis that led to Thompson’s hospitalization, with the manager’s welfare check arriving minutes too late to prevent physical harm.

Thompson’s Oct. 19 return will test whether the comedian can reclaim the high-energy stage persona that has defined his Vegas run since the mid-2000s.
