Catherine O’Hara confesses she ‘wouldn’t realize’ if Seth Rogen were high ‘the entire day’

Catherine O’Hara recently revealed her uncertainty about discerning whether Seth Rogen was under the influence of cannabis while they worked together on a production.

The duo has been spending a lot of time together over the past year while filming The Studio, an upcoming series for Apple TV+. Despite this, O’Hara admits she still finds it challenging to determine if Rogen is actually stoned or not.

Check out what O’Hara and her fellow Canadian told UNILAD regarding how Rogen managed his cannabis use while they collaborated here:

Rogen has assembled a remarkable group of A-list actors for his new project alongside his childhood friend, Evan Goldberg. The two have previously collaborated on cult classics like Superbad, Pineapple Express, and This Is the End.

In The Studio, the 42-year-old comedian plays Matt Remick, the new head of Continental Studios, who steps into the shoes of Patty Leigh, the character played by O’Hara, after she’s abruptly dismissed.

The show features a stellar cast including Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonder, along with numerous surprising celebrity cameos in this ten-part series.

In The Studio, Rogen and his ‘core team of infighting executives’ navigate the dilemma of greenlighting films that have true depth versus those with box office potential.

The series synopsis states: “They wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films.”

“With their power suits masking their never-ending sense of panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting, and award show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or career-ending catastrophe.”

“For someone who is passionate about movies, it’s the job Matt’s been chasing his whole life, and it may very well destroy him.”

While Rogen takes on the lead in The Studio, he also serves as a writer, director, and executive producer, admitting to UNILAD that balancing these roles made it a ‘busier job’.

Known for his affinity for cannabis, Rogen co-founded Houseplant, a lifestyle brand focused on cannabis products, with Mikey Mohr and long-time collaborator Goldberg.

Having claimed to smoke weed ‘all day, every single day’ since his early twenties, many might wonder how he managed this while filming The Studio.

Prior to the show’s premiere on March 26, O’Hara, 71, shared with UNILAD that she couldn’t tell if Rogen was high during filming.

The Home Alone star elaborated: “People ask me, ‘Is he stoned? Is he smoking all day?’ If he is, I would never know it.”

“I don’t know if I’ve ever worked with anyone who is more aware of everything going on on the set.”

“[Rogen] is director, producer, star in the scene and so aware, so collaborative and so loose and fun, but on the money. It’s crazy. Really, [he is] seriously impressive.”

Rogen then commented, admitting he’s ‘a little stoned all the time’, but stressed that his cannabis use does not come before his professional commitments.

“I would never prioritise weed smoking over actually filming the show,” he joked, adding: “There’s a lot of downtime on sets as well. I’d say I kept up a pretty good pace.”

O’Hara remarked that whatever Rogen is doing seems to be working remarkably well, quipping: “I wish it would work for me!”

While cannabis seems to fuel Rogen’s creativity, he acknowledged that it ‘doesn’t work for most people’ as it does for him, humorously noting that he ‘doesn’t offer it to the other cast members’.

Previously, Rogen had joked that artificial intelligence would require ‘a lot of weed’ to write a compelling TV show in discussions about the potential of AI replacing screenwriters.

O’Hara also shared that she’s ‘tried to smoke some weed’ a few times in her life, but it amplifies whatever emotion she’s experiencing at the time.

She recounted to UNILAD: “The few times that I’ve tried to smoke some weed, it heightens whatever I’m feeling before I smoke it. So if I’m with friends and really loose, then that will be heightened.”

“If I have the least bit of…I don’t know, self consciousness, then it’s just…’Are you stoned? Are you stoned now? Is everybody okay? Are you feeling what I’m feeling?’”

“It’s like no. I don’t do any drugs well. I like alcohol. But drugs, I don’t.”

The Studio will have its global debut on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes releasing on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, followed by weekly episodes each Wednesday until May 21, 2025.
