Bellamy Young, Joshua Jackson and Sugar Ray Leonard joined hundreds of volunteers Thursday to frame new homes for Palisades Fire survivors.
The stars were part of a four-day Habitat for Humanity Los Angeles community build in Pacific Palisades and Malibu, where the January 2025 wildfires destroyed nearly 7,000 structures and displaced thousands of households. Melissa Rivers, Betzaida Landin and executives from Paramount, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Discovery also turned out for the construction effort.
Over 500 volunteers participated in the multi-day effort, including wildfire survivors, local residents, corporate partners, construction professionals and community organizations from across Los Angeles. The volunteers began framing two new rebuilds, completed final touches on another home, provided critical repairs to smoke-damaged properties and revitalized impacted community spaces, according to a press release from the organization.
“This multi-day effort brings together community members, builders, and corporate partners to begin framing new homes, complete the final touches on another, provide critical repairs to smoke-damaged homes and revitalize impacted community spaces,” the release read.
The 2025 blaze burned more than 23,000 acres across the coastal neighborhoods. Nearly 1,000 homes are now under construction in the recovery effort, though many families still face a financial gap in rebuilding.
“Habitat LA is here to help restore stability and hope for those impacted by disasters, prioritizing support for low-income households that are uninsured, underinsured—those that are the most vulnerable,” the organization stated.
The nonprofit has helped rebuild homes devastated by natural disasters since the 1994 Northridge earthquake. It has currently approved 160 households for assistance, with close to 170 more applications in the pipeline that meet eligibility criteria.
Samsung committed to fully furnishing one home with appliances and consumer electronics as part of the build. The electronics company is also working with Habitat LA to distribute $1 million in appliances to wildfire survivors, the release added.
Pictures from Thursday showed the celebrities wearing hard hats and working on framing walls alongside other volunteers. The entertainment industry presence marked a high-profile moment in the ongoing recovery from what officials have called one of the most destructive wildfire events in Los Angeles history.
The community build continues through the weekend as part of the broader effort to help victims return home.
