Adam Pechal, 50, was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on $50,000 bail after a woman reported he had physically assaulted her at an Arden-Arcade home around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The local chef came to fame in 2013 when he appeared on Season 1 of ABC’s “The Taste,” a cooking competition show hosted by the late Anthony Bourdain.
Pechal was a prominent figure in Sacramento’s restaurant scene and most recently worked as a private chef for Sacramento Kings players.
Deputies responded to the Arden-Arcade home around 11 p.m. Wednesday after the woman called Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies and reported that Pechal had physically assaulted her.
Deputies arrested Pechal on suspicion of felony domestic violence after the woman was medically evaluated and cleared at the home, according to Sgt. Edward Igoe.
Pechal was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on $50,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court.
Pechal faced felony domestic violence charges and was set to appear in court Friday.
But by Friday afternoon, everything changed for the chef.
All charges against celebrity chef Adam Pechal have been dropped due to “insufficient evidence,” Sacramento County prosecutors confirmed Friday afternoon.
Sonia Martinez Satchell, an assistant chief deputy district attorney, said “it was determined there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Pechal was released from the Sacramento County Main Jail on Friday afternoon, having been held in custody for more than a day with his bail amount set at $50,000.
The chef’s most recent work had centered on private catering and consultation.
Pechal in 2025 designed the menu for Sacramento International Airport eatery Local Flights, and now operates as a private chef, largely for private events and Sacramento Kings athletes, along with work as a consultant and educator, according to his social media accounts.
Locally, Pechal was known as the chef behind Tuli Bistro and Restaurant Thir13en, now-closed restaurants in Midtown and Downtown Sacramento.
Pechal’s path to local prominence came through competitive cooking television.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home after the woman reported that Pechal had physically assaulted her. Upon arrival, deputies medically evaluated the woman at the scene and found her fit for release, then arrested Pechal on suspicion of felony corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail after midnight Thursday with bail set at $50,000.
Pechal could not immediately be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
The prosecutor’s decision Friday capped a swift reversal for the chef, whose arrest had marked what outlets described as a dramatic fall from his prominent standing in Sacramento’s restaurant world.
