A heartbreaking tragedy struck when CEO Richard David Hendrickson and his daughter Sally were killed in a devastating accident while driving through Ogden Canyon, Weber County, Utah. Their SUV was crushed by a bulldozer that dislodged from a tow truck traveling in the opposite direction. The impact was fatal for both Richard and Sally, while Hendrickson’s wife and two other children sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the accident, Lifetime Products, where Hendrickson served as CEO and President, released a heartfelt statement. “It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of our CEO and President, Richard David Hendrickson. This heartbreaking incident also claimed the life of one of his daughters, Sally,” the company expressed.
The tribute highlighted Hendrickson’s remarkable journey within the company, from welder to CEO, praising his exceptional skills and dedication. “He was one of my most trusted and cherished friends and will be sorely missed. Lifetime will not be the same without him. My love and heartfelt sympathy go out to his dear family,” the statement continued.
The fatal accident has sparked increased public concern about the safety of Ogden Canyon road, leading to a petition advocating for restrictions on the types of vehicles allowed on the narrow, two-lane road.
Described as a vital connection between Ogden Valley and the city of Ogden, the canyon road is bordered by the Ogden River and steep mountain cliffs, making it a challenging route for daily commuters, especially families and young drivers. The petition, which has collected around 1,700 signatures so far, highlights the lack of shoulder width and the potential dangers posed by larger vehicles.
“Let’s stand together for the safety of our loved ones and residents of Weber County,” the petition urges. “Show your support to limiting the types of vehicles on Highway 39 and make daily commuting in our beautiful canyon much safer.”
