Meet The Martial Arts Fighter With Down Syndrome Who’s Battling For The Right To Fight

Garrett Holeve is a mixed martial arts fighter. He also has Down Syndrome, and fought to overturn an injunction by the state of Florida that prevented him from fighting professionally.

Holeve had planned to fight a man with cerebral palsy in 2013, but the authorities deemed it a health risk.

But with the support of his father, mother, and friends, he eventually realized his dream — the family sued Florida for Holeve to be recognized as an MMA fighter. And recently, they found out they won.

“I think fighting injustice makes me stronger, more powerful,” Holeve says.
