Meet retirees Mark and Tori Baird. Instead of spending their retirement days on cruise ships or playing golf, they’ve founded a website to help struggling veterans find work.
Hire Patriots started when a Marine, fresh off the plane from Iraq, knocked on Mark and Tori’s door seeking work.
He was broke and together with his family, had been living without electricity. The vet refused Mark and Tori’s generous offer of $100 — instead pleading for honest work.
When the soldier left five hours later, Mark and Tori decided to set up Hire Patriots to help struggling veterans find their feet. The site grew in popularity, filling 100,000 jobs to date, and is now a nationwide job board for both veterans and their partners to find full-time, part-time, or just one-day jobs.
Tori told Brad Aronson: “We are currently having a troop drawback causing a tsunami of need. You have tens and tens of thousands of veterans getting out of the military. Lots of people getting forced out. And they need to support themselves and their families.”
One post to Hire Patriots can receive dozens of responses within minutes, so there simply aren’t enough jobs to go around.
Hire Patriots is always looking for people to volunteer and donate, too. Or simply spread the word about the website, so just sharing this article could make a huge difference to a soldier’s life.
