Chappell Roan has spoken out in defense of the bold outfit she wore to this year’s Grammys after it sparked mixed reactions online.
The 27-year-old made headlines by appearing on the red carpet on Sunday night in a sheer wine-red dress, reportedly designed by Thierry Mugler, with the top portion of the outfit being attached to Roan’s nipples.
Many admirers quickly praised the singer for her attire, which reflected her distinctive style, with numerous social media users posting supportive comments like: “Chapell Roan the woman that you are” and “you look so good there are no words sufficient enough to suffice.”
However, some individuals did not share the same enthusiasm, suggesting that the outfit was a bit too daring for such a prestigious event.
“No offense but this is too nude for me for a public event,” one person commented. Another questioned why the ensemble wasn’t deemed ‘public nudity’ given its exposure of Roan’s breasts.

Within less than a day of showcasing her outfit, Roan addressed the daring fashion choice on social media.
Posting on Instagram on Monday afternoon, she wrote: “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit. The look’s actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will it’s really fun and silly :D”
Despite being nominated for two awards on the night, Roan did not walk away with any trophies but expressed gratitude to her supporters, adding: “Thank you for having me @grammys and those who voted for me!!”
Roan was in contention for Record of the Year with her well-known track ‘The Subway’, but Kendrick Lamar with Sza took the prize with their song ‘Luther’.
She was also nominated for Best Solo Pop Performance for ‘The Subway’ but lost to Lola Young’s ‘Messy’.

Although she didn’t secure any awards, Roan didn’t let this affect her enjoyment of the night or her display of confidence.
In fact, Roan seemed to revel in the spotlight, according to a body language analyst.
Darren Stanton, speaking on behalf of Covers, observed: “Off the scale confidence from Chappell Roan. She puts her hands behind her back, which shows a clear confidence, and someone who feels comfortable in their body and not afraid to be photographed.
“Being pictured and in the limelight appears to act as a confidence boost to her. She’s outgoing and very brash, I’ve not seen levels like this in a very long time on a red carpet. She flashes a ‘chin thrust’ gesture, which is a clear sign of strength.”
