Charlize Theron just got super real about the ups and downs of motherhood, and honestly, it’s something every parent will nod along to.
Parenting can feel like a rollercoaster no matter the age of your kids. From the tantrums of toddlers to the mood swings of teens, each phase brings its own challenges, a sentiment echoed by Theron herself.
The star of “Mad Max: Fury Road” is a mom to two adopted daughters, 11-year-old Jackson and nine-year-old August.
Theron welcomed Jackson into her family in 2012 and expanded it with August in 2015.
Though Theron typically keeps details of her personal life under wraps, she opened up during a chat with E! News at the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) 2024 Block Party, sharing insights into her parenting experiences.
“Oh, my God, they’re so embarrassed by me constantly,” she confessed to the entertainment news outlet.
“They’re kids, they’re girls, you know? I have a preteen and I feel like I have a nine year old who thinks she’s a 13 yearold. It’s a lot of girl in our house.”
“I’m just trying to keep my head above water,” Theron continued. “They are smart and they are witty and they are firecrackers, but they do not go, ‘Oh my god, Mom, you’re so amazing’.”
“They’re like, ‘Excuse me, I need. I want’.”
Theron humorously labeled her daughters as ‘a**holes’, but quickly added that they are ‘really nice’ kids.
“Other parents know what I’m talking about,” she added, with a knowing nod to the universal struggles of parenting.
Last spring, Theron took her family on an action-filled trip to NYC, giving us all a peek into their adventures.
She shared snapshots with the caption: “We came, we saw, we did it all. NYC you were a treat!”
In one photo, Theron and her daughter enjoyed sodas, while other pictures captured their visit to the 9/11 memorial, a cruise near the Statue of Liberty, and a peek into the American Natural History Museum.
When they weren’t sightseeing, August accompanied her mom to a glamorous Dior fashion show.
Just before their NYC escapades, they had a magical spring break at Disney World.
