Cher, renowned as the world’s longest reigning pop superstar at 79, recently disclosed the secret to her successful relationship with a much younger man, during an open conversation with CBS’ Gayle King.
Having been in a relationship with Alexander Edwards, 39, for the last three years, Cher is frequently spotted in public with him and his young child. Despite facing criticism and speculation about their age gap, the singer of “Believe” has responded to her detractors.
Known as ‘AE’, Edwards was born during Cher’s third musical resurgence, coinciding with her transition to film in The Witches of Eastwick and Suspect in 1987, just months after his birth.
However, despite their significant age and life experience gap, Cher addressed the topic with King, saying with her characteristic flair, “Whatever. They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”
Edwards, a music executive at Sony, is perfectly content with their relationship, as Cher noted. She added, “He just says, ‘You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger.’”
With six decades in the music industry since her start with Sonny & Cher, the couple shares much in common. “We laugh all the time, you know? I just love him,” Cher expressed.
She elaborated, “I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”
In the past, when questioned about her preference for younger men, Cher bluntly stated, “The reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older, well, now they’re all dead.”
A key aspect of their evolving relationship is Edwards’ young son, six-year-old Slash, who has made appearances on the red carpet with his father and Cher.

For Cher, the presence of a child affirmed her partner’s suitability. She shared, “I used to say, ‘God, give me a toddler and a man,” and when Edwards appeared, she received “exactly” what she desired. She described the six-year-old as “so funny. He’s so smart. He’s a delight.”
This intimate moment emerged during an interview focused on promoting her new endeavor, ‘Cherlato’, an ice cream brand with flavors crafted by Cher herself. However, she insisted it was not merely a celebrity venture for profit.
She explained to King: “First, I want to say this — I get offered to do everything. I just don’t want to because people feel that I wouldn’t lie to them. I don’t ever want that to change.”
