An American mum has claimed that Cher was ‘speechless’ after learning she had a teenage granddaughter.
Often referred to as the Goddess of Pop, Cher, 79, is among the best-selling music artists of all time. Across her decades-long career, she’s won two Grammys, became a mother to two children, and took home the Oscar for Best Actress.
In an alleged filing with Los Angeles Superior Court, the Burlesque star is said to have recently sought a conservatorship involving her younger son, Elijah Blue Allman, 49, from her marriage to late musician Gregg Allman.
People reported that the Moonstruck actress’ son has ‘severe mental health and addiction issues’; is in 200,000 debt for unpaid income tax, and spends ‘any money he gets immediately’ on ‘drugs, expensive hotels and limousine transportation’.
The magazine added that Cher is attempting to have herself appointed as temporary conservator of her son’s estate again, describing him as ‘gravely disabled’ in the reported documents.
More recently, Allman has reportedly been identified as the father of 15-year-old Ever, the daughter of former model Kayti Edwards.
Edwards has alleged that she and Allman had a short relationship in 2010, which she says led to her becoming pregnant.
The mother-of-four, who lives on a ranch in Joshua Tree, California, told The Sun on Sunday that she spoke directly with Cher about Ever’s parentage last June.
Edwards said: “I had to confess. [Cher] said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk.
“When she heard the news, she was speechless,” she alleged.
Edwards further claimed that Allman later told his family Cher was ‘finally a grandma’, and that Cher invited them to stay at her home in Malibu.
During the visit, Edwards said they spent time together talking about school and boys, and that they all swam in the pool.
“She was like a kid herself,” the horse rescue centre-owner recalled, adding that Cher even offered a look at items from her well-known wardrobe.
Since what Edwards described as a “cool experience” in California, she claimed the ‘Believe’ singer has continued to build a connection with the teenager from a distance.
Edwards alleged that Cher has sent Ever money and a Chrome Hearts sweat set, and has also spoken with her by phone.
“Cher is really trying. It’s an adjustment and I’m not pushing any relationship. It has to come naturally,” Edwards claimed.
Cher, who also appeared in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, previously spoke about wanting grandchildren and said in a 2018 interview: “I don’t have any grandchildren. I wish I did, I really do.”
Edwards also emphasized that, regardless of the situation, Ever considers Edwards’ husband to be her true dad after raising her since birth.
“She has a father who has raised her from day one and that is her dad,” she stated. “I couldn’t ask for a better father for my kids.”
