The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was shot at the couple’s home in Virginia on Sunday night and hospitalized with serious injuries, sources confirmed Monday.
Mia Bieniemy, 57, is being treated for the gunshot wound and remains in stable condition at a hospital, according to those familiar with the situation. Police in Loudoun County, Virginia, responded to a shooting report at the residence located on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn at approximately 7:32 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday. Authorities confirmed they treated a person for “serious injuries” but initially did not disclose the victim’s identity.
Eric Bieniemy was not at the home when the shooting occurred. The offensive coordinator was in Missouri with the Chiefs at the campus of Missouri Western State, where the team was conducting the second practice of training camp ahead of the 2026 season.

Bieniemy, 56, is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished assistant coaches in the NFL. He left the team after the 2022 season, and most recently served as the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears.
Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs earlier this year in his current position as offensive coordinator. His coaching career has earned him respect throughout the league, though he has not been selected to become a head coach despite numerous opportunities and being considered for several head-coaching vacancies over the years.
