Christina Applegate recently discussed her ongoing health challenges after an episode that required hospitalization due to excruciating pain.
The “Dead To Me” star was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2021 and has been transparent about managing life with this debilitating condition, including sharing her symptoms.
One of the initial ‘subtle’ symptoms she noticed was numbness in her toes.
In a conversation with Conan O’Brien on his podcast, Applegate previously revealed: “My toes started to feel numb, just my toes a little bit. I was still hiking, I was still playing tennis, but my toes weren’t feeling right. Eventually, over those months, it grew from my toes, to my ankles, to my knees down is a whole other ball game.”
“I was losing balance, the pain was extraordinary. When I say numb, it was numb but it hurts,” she explained.
Besides appearing on various podcasts, Applegate co-hosts her own with fellow MS sufferer, “The Sopranos” actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
In the latest episode of their podcast, released on August 5, Applegate spoke with her co-host from the hospital.
The “Anchorman” actress had been visiting family in Europe when she began to feel unwell.
Although initially the condition wasn’t severe, Applegate described herself as being ‘up and down’. However, during an 11-hour flight back, she reported feeling ‘not good’.
Upon arriving in the United States, she promptly went to the hospital, seeking answers from her doctors regarding her condition.
“I wanna know why this is happening and I want it so stop,” she expressed, requesting ‘every test you can think of’ to diagnose her issues.
“The next day, which would then be Sunday, I started getting a pain that I’ve never felt before on my right side in my back,” she recalled.
The pain was so severe that Applegate feared it might be her ‘appendix bursting’. She was ‘screaming’ from the pain, leading doctors to perform an emergency CT scan in the early morning hours.
The scan revealed that the 53-year-old was suffering from a kidney infection, for which she is now on antibiotics.
“That’s where we’re at,” Applegate noted in her update. “And now they’re thinking that it could be something else but I don’t want to say what they think because I don’t want it to sound scary.”
Wishing Christina a swift recovery.
