Christina Applegate’s rep responds to hospitalization claims following ‘long history of medical conditions’

Christina Applegate’s representative has issued a statement following reports that the Dead to Me star was hospitalized in Los Angeles as she continues living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Applegate revealed in 2021 that she had been diagnosed with the condition, and she has since spoken candidly about the impact it has had on her day-to-day life.

Among the challenges she has discussed is a 40lb weight gain, which she has attributed to being less active because of her symptoms.

“I didn’t look like myself, and I didn’t feel like myself,” Applegate told The Los Angeles Times.

She has also shared that there are times when her MS symptoms make it difficult to even get out of bed.

In the years since her diagnosis, Applegate has spent time in hospital on multiple occasions — and she has now reportedly been admitted again.

TMZ reports that sources say she was admitted toward the end of March.

Following the claims, a spokesperson for the Anchorman actor — who recently said Will Ferrell and Adam McKay sacrificed part of their pay so she could be compensated more for the film — addressed the situation.

“I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are,” they told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

Applegate has continued to talk about MS publicly, including through her own podcast and appearances on other shows.

During a conversation on Conan O’Brien’s podcast last year, she described the early symptoms that first made her suspect something was wrong.

“My toes started to feel numb, just my toes a little bit. I was still hiking, I was still playing tennis but my toes weren’t feeling right,” Applegate recalled.

“Eventually, over those months, it grew from my toes, to my ankles, to my knees down is a whole other ball game. I was losing balance, the pain was extraordinary. When I say numb, it was numb but it hurts.”

Applegate added that fellow actor Selma Blair, who has also been diagnosed with MS, encouraged her to seek medical advice from a neurologist.

Applegate publicly confirmed her diagnosis in August 2021, sharing a message on Twitter at the time: “Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition.

“It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it.”
