Christina Haack, Tarek El Moussa, and Heather El Moussa teamed up to surprise their daughter Taylor with a $150,000 BMW ahead of her 16th birthday.
The trio shared the moment via Instagram, posting a video that showed the light blue BMW X5 M decorated with a pink bow. Haack, 43, El Moussa, 44, and his wife Heather had coordinated the gift while keeping Taylor completely in the dark about the plan. The teen was in the middle of a driving lesson with her father when the surprise unfolded.
“We are getting Taylor a new car!” Heather announced in the clip, revealing the group’s scheme to viewers before the big reveal. Haack added her own excitement about the plan, telling followers, “She has no idea. I am so happy for her, she deserves it.”
The video captured Taylor’s raw reaction as she spotted the luxury SUV waiting for her in an empty parking lot. The soon-to-be 16-year-old broke down in tears, hugging her parents as she processed the lavish present. The emotional moment marked a milestone for the blended family, who have worked to maintain close ties despite Haack and El Moussa’s 2018 divorce.
Heather, 37, leaned into the humor of the unconventional collaboration in her caption for the post. “What’s more of a surprise… The car for Taylor or the fact that the three of us actually pulled this off? 😂,” she wrote. She added a heartfelt message to her stepdaughter: “The car is so well deserved, we love you so much Tay.”
The gift comes at a significant moment for Taylor, who obtained her driving learner’s permit in March. Haack had previously shared her disbelief at that milestone on Instagram Stories, posting footage of Taylor pulling out of a driveway for a practice drive with Tarek in the passenger seat. “I can’t believe we have a driver,” Haack captioned the clip at the time.
The elaborate birthday surprise underscores how far Haack and El Moussa have come since their highly publicized split. The former couple, who married in 2009 and starred together on HGTV’s “Flip or Flop,” share Taylor and 10-year-old son Brayden. Their divorce followed a turbulent period that included a 2016 incident where police were called after El Moussa left their property with a firearm during an argument.
In the viral moment that cemented their co-parenting turnaround, Haack revealed in a January 2025 episode of “The Flip Off” that she had called El Moussa for help during her final fight with third husband Josh Hall in July 2024. “I called Tarek, and I said, ‘I’m worried right now. I feel uncomfortable.’ And he said, ‘Leave,'” Haack said. El Moussa then handled removing Hall from their HGTV series, telling the network and attorneys that Hall would no longer participate.
Since that turning point, the foursome — Haack, El Moussa, Heather, and Haack’s boyfriend Christopher Larocca — have developed what they call their “Double Trouble” group chat and regularly socialize together. Haack has credited all parties for making the dynamic work. “It really takes everyone in a co-parenting situation wanting to make it work,” she said in October 2025. “All of us want to get along. All of us work hard to make sure that we’re all getting along.”
The BMW gift also arrives as Haack continues to rebuild her personal life following her finalized divorce from Hall on Aug. 26. She has been dating Larocca since late 2024, and he has been spotted at “The Flip Off” Season 2 production events, fueling speculation he may appear as her on-screen partner. Heather teased the upcoming season in a December Instagram Story showing Larocca alongside the core trio, captioning it “Sneak preview of season 2 👀🛠️…”
