Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber stepped out together hand-in-hand for their first public appearance since losing their son.
The supermodel, 59, and the businessman, 63, walked Zuma Beach in Malibu on Saturday wearing matching white tops, black bottoms, ball caps and sneakers, with Crawford carrying a smartphone. The couple, who married in 1998, have remained largely out of sight since Presley Gerber died on Sept. 20 of an apparent overdose at age 27.
George Clooney, Rande’s Casamigos tequila co-founder and longtime family friend, broke the family’s public silence the day before the beach outing. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Albies Friday, he called the tragedy “the worst thing that could ever happen with family.”
“Quite honestly, it’s one of the most devastating things that’s happened to our family,” the actor said.
“And their family is just … as you can imagine,” he added.
Presley had checked into Resolutions Living, a sober living facility in Santa Monica, the same weekend he was pronounced dead, sources said. He was seen in footage giving a tour of the facility in the hours before his death. Dispatch audio indicated first responders were notified of an “overdose” and “cardiac arrest,” and he was found in a bedroom there. A source said Presley had the support of a 24/7 sober coach prior to his death. He was cremated days later.
A family rep asked for “privacy during this very difficult and painful time” shortly after the death.
Crawford was “inconsolable” and “absolutely devastated” following the loss, a source said exclusively. The family “is still trying to process everything that happened,” they added.
Crawford and Rande welcomed Presley in 1999, two years after their wedding. Daughter Kaia, now 25, followed in 2001. Presley had pursued modeling and tattoo artistry, and had spoken publicly about his past struggles with substance use and mental health.
The Malibu beach walk marked a rare visible moment for a couple who built decades of public life together—Crawford as one of the defining supermodels of her era, Rande as a nightlife entrepreneur who later co-founded the tequila brand with Clooney before its billion-dollar sale. Their children both entered the fashion world, with Kaia becoming a prominent runway model and Presley doing editorial and campaign work.
Clooney’s comments at the Albies, an awards ceremony honoring philanthropic work, offered the most direct acknowledgment of the family’s grief from their inner circle. The actor and Rande have maintained a close friendship for decades, with their business partnership and adjacent Malibu properties keeping them in regular contact.
The couple has not made any public statement themselves since their representative’s initial request for privacy.
