Clip shows police retrieving corpse from pond only to find man was still alive

An unusual video capturing what looks like a lifeless body being retrieved from a pond by a police officer has captured the internet’s attention, especially since the supposed ‘corpse’ surprisingly comes to life. This event occurred earlier this week in the Warangal district of Telangana, India, after local authorities received a report about a body seen floating in a lake for approximately five hours. Residents from Reddypurman Kovelakunt alerted the police, prompting a response from a team of officers. Upon arrival at Hanamkonda Pond, they found a man, shirtless and clad in blue denim jeans, seemingly motionless in the water since early morning.

In the widely shared video, an officer, aided by another individual, can be seen pulling at the ‘dead body’ from the water. To the shock of everyone involved, the man suddenly moved, turning his head to show that he was very much alive. The video, posted on X (previously known as Twitter), includes laughter from the person filming as the man in the water gets up and begins explaining himself to the officers.

Reportedly, according to the Hindustan Times, the man had decided to cool off in the pond after enduring a grueling 10-day stretch working at a nearby granite quarry, which included a recent 12-hour workday. He had unintentionally fallen asleep while unwinding in the shallow waters. The footage has since sparked numerous comments and discussions online about this odd sequence of events.

One user on X commented, “A guy can’t even have 10 mins peace and relaxation in a muddy pond these days ffs,” while another joked, “Me after a single Saturday looking after the kids without my wife’s support…” A third shared, “Man, I would have screamed so loud if I was that cop.” Another person added, “Nah being able to fall asleep on a random ass pond gotta be the coldest but most terrifying that in the world.” Additionally, a viewer noted, “What’s even more weird about this is that we see that this person was so overworked that rather than going home to sleep he rather ‘sleep’ in a pond to beat the exhaustion. Says more about our modern day working ethos.”

This bizarre incident has not only gone viral but also ignited a conversation about the pressures of modern work culture and the extreme lengths to which people go to find a moment of respite.
