Coco Jones married NBA star Donovan Mitchell on Saturday, August 1, with their first dance to Musiq Soulchild’s “Love” captured in viral footage across social media.
The Grammy winner, 28, and the Cleveland Cavaliers guard, 29, tied the knot in front of their closest family and friends including NBA stars Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson and Bam Adebayo, as well as Ciara and Russell Wilson.
Coco absolutely stole the show in a stunning reception gown paired with a flowing veil, while Donovan cleaned up in a sharp cream-colored tux, and the newlyweds looked all smiles as they celebrated with guests, dancing the night away.

The GRAMMY winner wed NBA star Donovan Mitchell on Saturday, August 1, roughly a year after the pair announced their engagement in July 2025.

The couple’s engagement announcement had shocked fans across social media last summer.
Jones announced their engagement on July 1 after keeping the details of their romance mostly private, sharing an Instagram photo of herself kissing Mitchell as she rested her hand on his chest, showcasing her dazzling ring.
In clips from the reception that spread rapidly across social media, the newlyweds share their first dance to Musiq Soulchild’s ‘Love’ while guests look on.

The song choice drew particular admiration from fans.
The song choice landed well with R&B fans online, many of whom praised the couple for reaching past the obvious wedding standards.

Mitchell had been deeply expressive about his feelings for Jones in the months leading up to the wedding.
“Man, that’s my dog. I love her to death,” he said. “She’s amazing. She’s an amazing human being. She brings me peace,” he continued, before sharing that he had an opportunity to spend some time with Jones on her “Why Not More?” tour.
“Getting to spend time with her on tour was something that was very unique ’cause you realize that she travels and works just as hard as we do,” Mitchell explained, adding that Jones was up late nights working on the tour bus.
“She’s a special human and you see it in her work, and to be able to call her my fiancée, my wife, is a blessing.”
Jones had joked about the magnitude of her commitment to Mitchell while planning the wedding.
“I think about my life so much like business, and I’m like, ‘Girl, you got to stop. This is the biggest contract I’ve ever signed.’ You know what I’m saying? This is a real-life, forever commitment,” she told People magazine.
“I talk about forever, I sing about forever, and then I’m like, ‘Oh, this really forever. Okay, word up, word up.'”
But Jones had also hoped for a more intimate affair.
On the red carpet, she reveals what she’s hoping their big day will look like, saying it’ll be “intimate.”

There was irony in how the videos traveled online.
Speaking on the red carpet at this year’s GRAMMYs, Jones described the wedding she was hoping for, and it was not this. “I hope that it can be really intimate, really special.”
“I’m not trying to do a viral wedding. If it was up to me, y’all wouldn’t know,” she shared. “But I have to give a little because that ain’t right. It’s mostly going to be private and intimate, and with a sprinkle of sharing is caring.”

In the viral moment that captured social media, Mitchell and Jones swayed together as their guests watched.
Videos shared by wedding guests, including footage posted by former basketball player Troy Payne, showed the couple’s first dance to Musiq Soulchild’s “Love,” with Jones wearing a veil as she moved with Mitchell through a reception tent draped in cream fabric and floral decorations.
Additional footage circulating from the reception showed the newlyweds singing along to “When I See You” with their guests.
The couple had kept their relationship largely private throughout their romance.
However, Jones recently confirmed their relationship in an interview with Shannon Sharpe on an episode of Club Shay Shay in March 2025. When Sharpe asked Jones about her being seen with Mitchell, the singer responded, “I love the internet because they definitely clocked my tea.
Jones and Mitchell’s love story reportedly started at a networking event for creatives where phones were banned, forcing the two to actually talk in person. Mitchell had apparently tried reaching out on Instagram years earlier following a Bel-Air brand collaboration with his shoe line, but that first attempt went unnoticed. Dating rumors picked up in 2024 before Jones confirmed things were official on Club Shay Shay, and Mitchell popped the question in July 2025, soundtracking the proposal clip with her own single “You.”
Both have spoken about how grounding the relationship is, with Mitchell calling life with her “peace” and Jones joking that marriage is the biggest “contract” she’s ever signed while praising him as her biggest cheerleader.
The wedding comes after a year filled with career milestones for Jones. She recently performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing” during the Super Bowl LX pregame ceremony, praised Ciara for mentoring her through the demands of balancing career and personal life, and has been candid with fans about experimenting with her music and embracing a new creative direction.

Mitchell signed a $273 million contract extension with the Cavaliers this summer, securing his NBA contract until 2031.
