A congresswoman has had to address the recent child abuse charge against her son.
Lauren Boebert, a Republican, is the mother of four sons, with her eldest, Tyler, having faced various felony charges over the years, including identity theft.
In 2023, Tyler, now 20, became a father, making Boebert a grandmother at the age of 36.
Tyler’s most recent legal encounter involves a misdemeanor charge of child abuse, which he received on July 11.
According to Westword, the charge against Tyler is for criminal negligence, with no resulting death or injury.
In response to the situation, Congresswoman Boebert described the charge as stemming from a ‘miscommunication’.
She released a statement to Newsweek, saying: “Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year; unfortunately, this event stems from a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house.”
Boebert characterized the incident as isolated, emphasizing that there was ‘no injury or physical abuse involved’, according to The Independent. The family reportedly met with Child Protective Services.
This charge arises with Tyler having one year remaining on his probation. In October 2024, he confessed to an attempted identity theft charge and received a two-year deferred judgment.
Under this agreement, Tyler is required to complete 80 hours of community service and abstain from using controlled substances. Compliance with these terms would result in the felony being expunged from his record.
Whether his recent charge will be considered a violation of probation is not yet determined.
Tyler’s legal troubles date back to 2022, when he crashed his father’s SUV into a creek bed, resulting in multiple injuries to a passenger.
He was initially ticketed for careless driving, but the charges were reduced to a ‘defective vehicle for headlights’ ticket as part of a plea deal.
In January 2024, Tyler contacted authorities, accusing his father, Jayson, of assault at their Garfield County residence in Colorado.
In June 2024, Jayson Boebert pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and received unsupervised probation in exchange for the plea, according to CBS News.
Congresswoman Boebert and her children’s father are no longer together. She filed for divorce in April 2023, which was finalized six months later.
Additionally, in February 2024, Tyler was connected to several vehicle trespasses and thefts, pleading guilty to one charge as part of a deal.
