Costco selling 10-pound chocolate bunny that costs $140 and has special instructions on how to eat it

Sweet treat lovers have something new to get excited about: Costco is selling a massive 10-pound chocolate Easter bunny — and it even comes with official instructions on how to break into it.

Earlier this month, the National Retail Federation projected that Americans will spend roughly $24.9 billion on Easter in 2025, with candy expected to take up the biggest share of that total.

For anyone looking to go all-in on chocolate this April — whether for yourself or as a dramatic holiday gift — Costco’s oversized bunny might fit the bill.

The huge rabbit is called Pete, made by Minnesota-based food manufacturer Maud Borup, and it tips the scales at 10lbs.

“Pete is 10 pounds of smooth, rich chocolate turned centerpiece, basket showstopper and egg-stagram sensation,” an Instagram post shared by the company read.

“First he’s admired, then he’s cracked or cut. A hop-tastic moment that turns a bunny spectacle into shareable bites. One giant bunny, a hundred little moments of chocolate.”

Pricing appears to vary by location. The bunny has reportedly been seen at $140 in some stores, while one Costco in New York listed it at $68.07.

Maud Borup says the semi-solid statue is crafted from fair-trade white, milk, and dark chocolate. The company also notes it contains 151 servings, with each serving coming in at 150 calories.

Doing the math, the New York Post reported that finishing the entire bunny in one sitting would add up to an eye-watering 22,650 calories.

For context, typical daily guidance suggests about 2,500 calories for men and 2,000 for women — meaning this rabbit would represent many days’ worth of calories in one go.

One Reddit user also pointed out that the bunny contains 19 grams of sugar per serving, which would total 2,869 grams of sugar — or 6.325lbs — if someone somehow ate all of it.

What really sets Pete apart, though, is that buyers aren’t left guessing how to tackle a chocolate sculpture of this size: it comes with suggested “how to eat” directions.

Shoppers are reportedly told to ‘wrap Pete in a towel’ before giving it a good hit, either with a hammer or a rolling pin.

If you’d rather avoid the smash-and-shatter method, there’s another option: warm and dry a serrated bread knife, then carefully slice into parts like the ears or feet.

Online reactions have been swift, with Redditors offering everything from jokes to genuine childhood terror at the idea of bunny demolition. One person wrote: “Bunny destruction was the stuff of nightmares for child me, despite the promise of chocolate.”

Another commented: “I need to hide my mother-in-law’s membership card.”

“The suggestion to pass it around the table is hilarious,” someone else added.

A fourth user noted: “This brand also makes the 1lb gummy bears I bought at Walmart for Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Interesting to see it at Costco.”

If you’re thinking about grabbing one, it may be a limited-time find. Pete isn’t expected to stick around long, with Easter landing on Sunday April 5.
