Customer reveals surprising charge on receipt after informing staff of incorrect beer served

A patron recounted an experience where they faced an unexpected charge after receiving an incorrect beer order. Mistakes are common in the hospitality industry, often involving mix-ups with food and beverages. Normally, such errors are corrected with the principle that the ‘customer is always right.’ However, this wasn’t the case for a diner at an unnamed location in a small town in Indiana. According to a Reddit post, the customer incurred a surprise fee simply for voicing a complaint.

The customer shared a photo of their receipt on the subreddit r/mildlyinfuriating, showing an order of three beers amounting to $10, along with a cheese and pepperoni pizza costing $7.94.

Before taxes and tip, the total should have been $17.94. However, an unexpected $5 ‘b*tching fee’ was tacked on, making the bill $24.78 with an additional $1.84 in tax.

The customer, smokeymctokerson, explained that they ordered a Miller Lite but were mistakenly served an opened Bud Light.

The server couldn’t exchange the opened bottle, so it was offered for free. “I wasn’t even going to complain, but my friend spoke up, forcing me to point out her mistake,” they mentioned. “Honestly, there wasn’t any b*tching involved so I don’t know what that was about.”

The extra charge caused an uproar on Reddit, with many criticizing the establishment, especially since the ‘b*tching fee’ was taxed.

Comments were divided, with some questioning the legality of the charge, labeling it as ‘fraud,’ while others joked about the fee’s taxability. Others considered the fee absurd and debated whether to tip or pay at all.

Despite the incident, the customer maintained a light-hearted perspective, stating it wasn’t worth holding a grudge. In their post, they expressed an understanding towards the business and said, “I thought it was funny and I’m the only one who has a reason to care.” They added, “It was pretty funny and I’ve also never been charged a b*tching fee before!”
