Cynthia Erivo discusses her connection with Ariana Grande amidst romance speculations

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have developed a close and affectionate relationship.

During the promotions for Wicked ahead of its 2024 release, it was evident that the two stars had formed a deep connection.

With the upcoming release of the film’s sequel, Wicked: For Good, on November 21, Erivo and Grande continue to display their strong bond, frequently staying close and often seen touching.

Recently, the duo gained attention when a fan unexpectedly approached Grande on the golden carpet in Singapore. Erivo quickly stepped in to shield her from the enthusiastic fan.

After Erivo intervened, security swiftly removed the individual from the carpet area.

Erivo, a 38-year-old British actress, has opened up about the nature of their relationship.

In an interview with NBC News, the Widows actress shared: “This is a long-lasting friendship for us; we’re kind of like sisters at this moment in time, you know? And I think we’ve both learnt from each other and given each other some really, really beautiful gifts.”

She further added, “We’ve really looked after each other through this.”

Regarding her quick response to the fan incident, she stated: “I wasn’t really thinking, I just wanted to make sure my friend was safe, you know? I’m sure he didn’t mean us harm; you just never know with those things, and I wanted to make sure that she was okay. That was my first instinct.”

Grande also spoke about their connection on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, emphasizing the significance of their physical closeness for their on-screen chemistry and the overall production of Wicked.

Grande mentioned their desire to be “safe in each other” with both emotional and physical closeness, maintaining a connection throughout the process.

Addressing a viral moment where she was seen holding Erivo’s finger during an emotional interview, Grande explained: “I channel a lot of energy through my hands, and so I’m always holding a hand, I’m always squeezing something.”

“I like to channel support and energy… I didn’t even notice it was a thing until that thing happened,” she admitted.

Grande also shared that the closeness was initiated by her, recalling her initial approach to Erivo: “Hey, we’re getting to know each other, we’re gonna learn a lot about each other very quickly, I want you to know there’s nothing that we can’t talk about.”
