7-Year-Old Double Amputee Gymnast Wins Modeling Contract For Sportswear Line

This 7-year-old gymnast is showing everyone that you can do anything regardless of your disability.

Daisy-May Demetre was diagnosed with fibular hemimelia at birth. Both of her feet and fibular bones were underdeveloped. This made it difficult for her to move her legs, and her parents had to make the tough decision to have both of her legs amputated below the knee.

When she got her prosthetics, the 7-year-old got her mobility back. She wanted to be a gymnast and her parents supported her 100%.

River Island, a popular sportswear brand, wanted the little girl to be the face to represent their brand.

A brand spokesperson said, “As well as having a great, outgoing personality, Daisy-May has a genuine love of all sports.”

“We required a model who has lots of energy and who looked great in active wear. Daisy-May Demetre fitted this brief perfectly.”

Daisy-May was also asked to model during London Fashion Week. Her parents were not surprised that their daughter was chosen to represent River Island.

“My original statement which I stick by now is that she will be the most influential inspiring double amputee to have lived,” her father Alex said.

Alex started an Instagram page for her daughter where they’ve received tons of support from people online.

“The support we get through Instagram from other disabled and non-disabled people is what we are about – helping to put smiles on faces and inspire people to push and follow their dreams.”
