Dax Shepard has come under scrutiny for apparently focusing too much on Sabrina Carpenter during a podcast episode with Marcello Hernandez from SNL.
In a recent episode of the “Armchair Expert” podcast, hosted by Dax Shepard, he interviewed Marcello Hernández from “Saturday Night Live.” During the conversation, Shepard brought up the topic of Hernández’s friendship with singer Sabrina Carpenter, amid circulating rumors about a possible romantic connection between them.
Shepard mentioned that because of his 10-year-old daughter’s affinity for Carpenter’s music, he has become “newly obsessed” with her. He talked about attending a performance by the singer about a month prior and expressed his admiration for her and her work.
The podcast host then inquired whether Hernández and Carpenter were friends and how their relationship began. Some listeners found Shepard’s comments to be a bit questionable.
Hernández shared that he first met Carpenter while in character as Domingo from SNL. In November 2024, he participated in one of Carpenter’s Los Angeles concerts as part of a skit where he was “arrested” by the singer for being “gorgeous” and causing her to be “flustered and overwhelmed.”
Performing in front of 14,000 to 15,000 people, Hernández recalled the experience as “insane” and “old school,” as he brought along SNL writers to help script the event. He noted Carpenter’s willingness to engage with the humorous scenario.
Shepard’s curiosity about Carpenter did not stop there; he expressed how he was “obsessed” with her, recognizing her talents beyond music to include acting. However, his comments continued to push boundaries when he remarked, “Now, if I’m you, and I’m 28, I’m going to try to date her with all my might. Are you not trying your hardest to marry her?”
Hernández, sipping his drink, responded to Shepard’s comments.
The “Happy Gilmore 2” actor politely clarified, “I’m in a relationship with a Dominican girl. She’s an architect. She’s unreal. She went to Yale.”
Hernández further added, “But Sabrina’s awesome.”
Shepard’s comments quickly drew attention on social media.
One user on X commented, “Dax is acting so weird, fr.”
Another user noted, “Marcello had to shut him down multiple times to mention his own girlfriend. it’s a bad look for a married man to be that obsessed with a pop star’s love life.”
A third commenter questioned, “Ohh that’s not- why did Dax say that??”
However, many praised Hernández for his response, with one stating, “I love how he respected Sabrina while making it clear he is happily taken. It is so refreshing to see someone in Hollywood handle these awkward shipping questions with such class and maturity.”
