Debby’s son Caden isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to his mother’s fiancé Mido and his dreams of becoming a Hollywood star. In an exclusive clip from Sunday’s new episode of “90 Day Fiancé,” the 41-year-old Egyptian actor sits down with Caden for a reality check about the challenges of making it in the entertainment industry.
Mido has been remarkably vocal about his ambitions to achieve movie star status in America, telling a Hollywood agent named Jason that he wants to be an actor “like Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Al Pacino, Brad Pitt.” When Caden brings up his own experiences with pursuing difficult dreams, he draws on a personal analogy to illustrate a hard truth.
“Like for me personally, I really wanted to play baseball, but there’s definitely the fine line of things that you really love to do and things that have to be able to, you know, pay your bills, put food on the table, stuff like that,” Caden stresses in the exclusive clip.
Caden goes further, explaining to Mido the brutal realities of the acting profession. “Acting is a very, like, you know, a one in a million type of shot to be actually sustainably successful in terms of providing for family,” he notes. The conversation reveals a fundamental concern many of Debby’s loved ones have been grappling with all season: whether Mido moved to America to be with his fiancée or to chase stardom.
When Caden asks Mido if he has any other skills or backup plans, the 41-year-old insists he can make music videos and put them on YouTube for revenue. “I’m trying to be successful all the time,” he counters, seemingly unwilling to entertain the possibility that his acting dreams might not materialize.
Mido doesn’t take Caden’s concerns well and later tells cameras he will prove him wrong in the future, remaining defiant about his aspirations despite the grim statistics about success in Hollywood.
The tension around Mido’s priorities has been a constant source of conflict throughout Season 12 of the TLC show. Debby, 55, has openly wondered if he’s marrying her because he loves her, or because he wants to live in America to pursue his dreams of becoming an A-list actor. The couple met when Mido was working as her tour guide in Egypt, and she initially believed he was a successful movie star, though she has never actually seen any of the films he claimed to have appeared in.
