Delta Planes Collide at NYC’s LaGuardia Airport; Witnesses Share Startling Details

A collision occurred on the taxiway at LaGuardia Airport in New York involving two Delta Air Lines planes, resulting in one person being hospitalized.

The event happened on Wednesday night, October 1, shortly after Flight 5047 arrived in New York from Charlotte, North Carolina, carrying 57 passengers.

Simultaneously, Flight 5155, with 28 passengers, was preparing for departure to Roanoke, Virginia, moving along its taxiway.

The planes collided at the intersection of taxiway M and A. The pilot of Flight 5047 reported the collision to the ground controller.

Audio from LiveATC.net recorded the pilot saying: “We have two CRJs on (taxiway) M that collided. Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit wind screens.”

The wing of the flight bound for Virginia struck the cockpit window of the flight from North Carolina in what Delta described as a ‘low-speed collision’ between planes operated by Endeavor Air, a regional carrier.

During the incident, a flight attendant injured her knee. A spokesperson from LaGuardia Airport noted that the crew member ‘suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.’

No other injuries were reported.

CBS News employee Joey Annunziato, a passenger on the NC flight, shared a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, describing the event as the plane being ‘absolutely smashed by another Delta flight’.

He recounted, “Everyone shot forward in their seats and it was kind of a little chaotic as soon as it happened,” adding, “We were kind of shocked at what happened. We were moving at a pretty decent clip too.”

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash circumstances.

The FAA, as reported by CNN, indicated that air traffic control had directed Flight 5155 to hold at the intersection and give way to the other aircraft.

Delta Air Lines stated: “Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience.”

Following the collision, passengers were transported to the terminal by bus and provided hotel accommodations and meals. Airport operations were not otherwise disrupted. The LaGuardia spokesperson informed Mail Online that passengers on the departing flight would be rebooked onto another flight.

Efforts to contact LaGuardia and Delta for additional comments are ongoing.
