Demi Moore Surprises Fans with the ‘Proper’ Pronunciation of Her Name After Years of Mispronunciation

It appears that the pronunciation of Demi Moore’s name has been misunderstood for quite some time.

While it’s often the Irish celebrities like Saoirse Ronan, Barry Keoghan, and Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan who are tasked with teaching others the correct pronunciation of their names, even seemingly simple names can be tricky.

Names often experience variations in pronunciation. Recently, James Bond actor Daniel Craig highlighted this on Stephen Colbert’s show, noting that Americans tend to say Craig as ‘Creg’.

Being British, Craig prefers the British pronunciation, which is understandable.

Recently, an old interview with Demi Moore resurfaced online, where she discussed her name pronunciation with Jimmy Fallon.

Lately, Moore has been in the spotlight after winning her first Golden Globe earlier this month.

The 62-year-old actor has had a long career with several nominations, but her role in The Substance finally earned her the prestigious award.

During her heartfelt acceptance speech, Moore expressed feeling ‘so humbled and so grateful’.

She mentioned that she had been called a ‘popcorn actress’ in the past and was made to feel unworthy of a Golden Globe, but upon receiving the script for The Substance, she felt reassured that her acting career was far from over.

In a 2017 interview with Fallon, Moore talked about her name, comparing it to Demi Lovato’s.

Despite their first names being spelled the same, they are pronounced differently.

“Our families say our names the same, but we each individually pronounce it differently,” Moore explained about herself and Lovato.

She reasoned that the variation ‘works better with our last names’.

Moore elaborated: “Like, ‘Deh-mee Lovato’ sounds really good, and ‘Duh-mee’ Moore sounds really good.”

As the clip gains attention again online, many are sharing their views on Twitter.

One user commented: “Love how she’s taking charge of her own name, makes it even more iconic!”

Another added: “Good to know! Getting names right always matters.”

Some, however, were surprised.

One person contemplated: “Who else unknowingly pronounced both names exactly the same?”

Another shared: “Just realized I pronounce Demi Lovato and Demi Moore differently even though they have the same first name.”
