Charlie Sheen recently discussed a situation involving his ex-wife, where a check he intended as a joke was unexpectedly cashed. Sheen revealed that the mother of his children deposited a $1,000,000 check he had written as a playful gesture.
According to Sheen, the check was cashed about a month later, leaving him quite surprised.
During an interview on the KFC Radio podcast, the actor from Two and a Half Men mentioned that he can’t recall if he gave her the check during or after their marriage, but suspected it was a birthday gift.
His intention was for the check to be more of a symbolic gesture than an actual monetary gift for his ex.
“I mean, I don’t think she’ll be too mad,” Sheen said on his podcast, referring to ex-wife Denise Richards.
“I wrote a check to Denise once for a million dollars on her birthday kind of as a joke, and she kept it not as a joke.”
He continued: “And then, like a month later, f****** cashed it,” adding that it made the situation sting more.
Sheen admitted that if he were in a similar situation, he might do the same. However, he wished she had informed him sooner, perhaps on the day she cashed it.
He joked about the scenario where she could have called him, and he might have said: “Hey, you sound like you’re driving somewhere,” to which she could have responded: “Yeah, to the bank, actually!”
Despite not expecting her to cash the check, he was relieved it didn’t bounce.
Following his revelation concerning Richards, whom he married in 2002 and separated from in 2005 while she was six months pregnant with their second child, Richards responded to the claims.
On Instagram, she tagged Sheen in a post displaying a picture of the check, still uncashed.
Accompanying the song “Money” by Pink Floyd, she wrote: “Found this during my recent move. I never cashed it, @CharlieSheen. Is it still good?!”
In 2020, during an episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Richards opened up about her experience leaving Sheen while pregnant.
She shared: “When I got pregnant with Lola, things started to change rapidly. It was a very dark time and very toxic. And I filed for divorce when I was 6 months pregnant with her. I always did whatever I could to hide Charlie’s behavior.”
Currently, Richards and Sheen seem to maintain a civil relationship amid Richards’s divorce from Aaron Phypers after six years. She has accused Phypers of physical and emotional abuse, and they are presently involved in a legal case regarding these allegations.
