The Department of Homeland Security has responded to criticism from singer Chappell Roan after she expressed her disapproval of ICE during a recent concert.
During her performance at the Rose Bowl on Friday, October 10, Roan criticized the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in a passionate moment.
She paused her show to deliver a strong message that resonated with her audience.
Roan exclaimed, “F*** ice forever,” repeating it to enthusiastic applause and cheers from the California crowd.
The moment was captured by many fans on their phones and quickly spread across social media.
Supporters praised Roan for her bold stance, as there has been ongoing criticism of ICE for overstepping boundaries and detaining individuals without criminal records.
One fan commented: “Y’all know how many birds she’s gonna anger by this? I love it and I don’t even listen to her.”
Another stated: “People screamed louder after that line than they did for the chorus of Pink Pony Club.”
A third attendee shared: “We were there and she was spectacular. She certainly didn’t mince her words!!”
Another fan expressed: “I’m getting misty-eyed. I have not heard so many people in one place cheer. It makes my heart beat a bit stronger. Seeing all the hate against my people, has been so devastating to me. Seeing this, makes my heart 💗💗💗 thank you!!”
In response, the Department of Homeland Security dismissed Roan’s remarks but included a slight compliment.
DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin told TMZ, “Pink Pony Club is good. Pedophiles are bad. That’s who we’re getting off of our streets. Get a grip.”
Despite the support for Roan’s position, some argued she should have been more politically active during the lead-up to last year’s elections.
Critics suggested her criticism of ICE lacked real impact.
One user questioned on social media: “Where was this energy earlier with Trump/elections?”
Another said: “She refused to endorse any Democrat candidate last election but wants to speak up now that she sees real people pushing back.”
A third disillusioned fan commented: “I’m sorry, but rich people saying things means nothing to me at this point. I agree with her sentiment, but I’m not going to worship someone who’s able to sit in their mansion or go on a stage and say something that people are getting beat on the street for saying.”
