At 99 years of age, Dick Van Dyke, a stalwart of Hollywood, has shared the secret to his longevity.
Many individuals who have reached their 100th birthdays are often asked about their secrets to a long life, and their answers vary widely.
Ruth Goldberg Jaskow, who is 101, claims that she has never adhered to a strict diet and eats whatever she wishes, whereas 100-year-old Albert Stiles credits beetroot consumption for his longevity.
Dick Van Dyke is set to join the ranks of centenarians like Goldberg Jaskow and Stiles later this year. He celebrated his 99th birthday on December 13, 2024.
As his milestone birthday approaches, Van Dyke has disclosed the practices that have contributed to his long life.
In a conversation on the Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, the Diagnosis: Murder actor described it as ‘insane’ that he is turning 100 this year.
When queried about what he attributes his age and vitality to, Van Dyke disclosed that he has ‘always exercised’.
“Three days a week, we go to the gym, still. Three days a week,” he discussed his exercise routine.
Van Dyke recently shared a glimpse of his workout routine with his 203,000 Instagram followers, where he was praised as an ‘inspiration’.
In the clip, Van Dyke is seen performing single-leg presses on a resistance machine.
One viewer remarked: “Such an inspiration! Keep moving.”
Another echoed: “This is one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever seen. What an inspiration!”
“I can’t even do that at 38 lol,” quipped another follower of Van Dyke on social media.
A fourth admirer commented: “Wow I can only dream of even getting to this age and being able to do that.”
Further comments praised him as an ‘icon’.
Despite being in remarkable shape for his age, Van Dyke had to withdraw from an event last year after seemingly overcommitting himself.
“We are sorry to announce that Dick Van Dyke is not able to travel to FanX at this time,” announced the producers of FanX, the Utah-based event he was scheduled to attend, back in September.
“He expresses his gratitude to all of those who continue to support him but, at almost 99 years of age, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he is able to do at this time.”
As Van Dyke approaches his 100th birthday, he has expressed that he is not afraid of dying.
While featuring in Coldplay’s seven-minute-long music video for their song ‘All My Love’, Van Dyke shared: “I don’t know why, it doesn’t concern me, I’m not afraid of it.
“I have that feeling totally against anything intellectual I have, that I’m going to be alright.”
