Sean “Diddy” Combs is now expected to leave federal prison earlier than previously anticipated, after another revision to his projected release date.
Observers who closely follow updates to the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate database have grown used to seeing changes tied to the music mogul’s sentence, but this latest adjustment is the biggest reduction so far.
Updated Bureau of Prisons records viewed in mid-June 2026 now show that the 56-year-old is due to be released from FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey, on February 23, 2028.
That marks a notable change from the timeline originally attached to his sentence, which had pointed to a June 2028 release after he was sentenced in October 2025.
In October 2025, Combs received a 50-month federal sentence after being convicted on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines to engage in prostitution. That term already reflected roughly a year he had spent in custody since his September 2024 arrest.

This is not the first time officials have recalculated his expected release. Over recent months, the date has moved several times as prison administrators updated his record.
The Bureau of Prisons does not typically publish detailed explanations for changes made to an individual inmate’s release schedule. However, legal experts say such reductions are commonly linked to good-conduct credit, time already served, and participation in approved prison programs.
Reports have pointed in particular to Combs’ involvement in the Residential Drug Abuse Program, known as RDAP, which he joined late last year.
Eligible federal prisoners who complete the intensive rehabilitation course can potentially receive as much as a year off the remainder of their sentence.
According to Extra TV, earlier this year, a legal representative for Combs stated:
“Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start. He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change.”
Even with his release date moving forward, his attorneys are still pressing ahead with an appeal challenging both the conviction itself and the federal law used in the case. In April 2026, appellate judges questioned the length of the sentence during oral arguments, though no ruling has yet altered the term.
For now, Combs remains at FCI Fort Dix, where the projected release date on the Bureau of Prisons record continues to reflect February 23, 2028.
