Paul Bettany is ready to return to the small-screen side of the MCU, with work on a new Disney+ series focused on his robot good guy Vision, apparently dubbed Vision Quest, having begun.
Bettany was, of course, one half of last year’s WandaVision, the streaming service’s first big MCU success story. While that series finished by restoring Viz to his role as one of the major fatalities of the Avengers’ fight with Thanos, it also offered a rather simple means to bring Bettany and the character back, with a rebuilt version of him roving about the MCU’s TV screens.
Vision Quest isn’t only a somewhat ironic play on the title: It’s the title of a famous run from West Coast Avengers in the mid-’80s that established a lot of the plot beats that WandaVision ended up importing into the MCU—namely, the idea that the domestic tranquility Wanda and Vision had discovered in the preceding years was, at least in part, an illusion created by dark magics.
Vision Quest, like the Agatha Harkness program in the works, is purportedly being produced by WandaVision founder Jac Schaeffer. The program is reportedly launching a writers room next week; in the meantime, Deadline says that Bettany’s co-star Elizabeth Olsen may make an appearance in the series—which would be pretty strange, given how the aftermath of WandaVision ended up turning out in the larger MCU.
