Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who recently turned 33, found herself at the center of a controversy as crime scene photos from her mother’s murder surfaced online.
On June 27, Gypsy Rose marked her 33rd birthday. She was previously incarcerated for seven years due to her involvement in her mother’s killing.
In the eight months since her release, Gypsy has been adjusting to life outside prison. This period has seen her file for divorce from the husband she married while incarcerated, rekindle an old relationship, and announce her pregnancy.
However, on her birthday, forensic images from the murder scene of Claudine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard were leaked on the internet.
Back in June 2015, Dee Dee was brutally stabbed 17 times by Gypsy’s then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, whom she met online.
Gypsy is believed to have been a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a mental illness and form of child abuse perpetrated by her mother.
Nicholas received a life sentence for the murder, while Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years for her role in the conspiracy.
The leaked crime scene photos depict the house where Gypsy and Dee Dee had lived for years, including evidence of the crime such as blood stains and cigarette butts.
The images also include graphic photographs of Dee Dee’s body, which are deeply unsettling.
April Johns, who claims to have been a spokesperson for Gypsy Rose following her mother’s death, explained how these images were disseminated online.
Johns, who runs the podcast Good Wives Network, said in a TikTok video: “The link that’s going around to a drive is my files.”
“Yes, it came from my Patreon. Nice of you all to take it out of there and then spread it all over the place, it’s really nice of you.
“But I don’t really care because here’s the thing, that you guys aren’t really understanding is those documents, those crime scene photos, they have been public for the last nine years, anyone could have put a FOIA [Freedom of Information Act] in at anytime they wanted to and gotten those photos – and many have and they have been out for years.”
She continued: “The fact that you’re just now seeing them means that you’re probably just now coming to the case, or you chose to be wilfully ignorant for the last eight years and you know just didn’t bother to look for them… because they’ve been everywhere for a very long time.”
Currently, Gypsy Rose and Johns are embroiled in a legal dispute. The Blanchards have filed a lawsuit against Johns for defamation, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, false light, and fraud.
In 2017, Gypsy and her parents had signed a life rights option agreement with Johns, allowing producers to use Gypsy’s life story for documentary purposes.
Gypsy, who is expecting a baby in January next year, has expressed her excitement about becoming a parent despite her ongoing divorce from Ryan Anderson. She and her current boyfriend, Ken Urker, are looking forward to welcoming their child.
She has also vowed to provide her baby with “all the things she wanted in a mother.”
