The unsettling text messages sent by a teacher to a minor have been made public following her sentencing.
McKenna Kindred, a 25-year-old married teacher at the time, engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student at her home in Spokane, Washington, in November 2022.
The details of the text conversations between Kindred and the teenager have been reported by the Mail Online.
Kindred invited the student to her home while her husband was away on a hunting trip. The teenager later provided information to investigators regarding the events that transpired.
The teen recounted arriving between 6:30 and 7, watching a movie with Kindred, and then engaging in kissing and later sexual activities, which moved to Kindred’s bedroom.
They concluded their encounter around 10 PM, spent some time in the living room, took a shower, and the teenager left at approximately 11:30 PM.
Text messages exchanged before this incident suggest that the inappropriate relationship began months earlier.
In one particular message, Kindred references an incident at Central Valley High School in Spokane, where she was employed.
Her messages to the teenager included: “I was sad when you had to leave my room. I wanted you to be in my room.
“When other girls talk about you in my class I could feel myself getting mad. We almost got caught.
“I was sad when that student walked in when he did. I wanted you to hold me. I really liked being touched by you.
During her sentencing hearing, Kindred expressed remorse to the minor and his family, stating she was ‘deeply ashamed of what she had done.’
She remarked: “I am truly sorry for my actions. I know that this past year has been enormously stressful for all involved.
“As a result of my actions I’ve lost my career, valuable friendships, freedoms and have let down countless people who placed their trust in me.
“My mental health has also been severely affected by this event. I am deeply ashamed of the pain I have caused.”
Kindred was taken into custody and admitted to first-degree sexual misconduct in March 2024.
The situation came to light after a friend of the teenager accessed his Instagram account, took screenshots of the messages, and showed them to a teacher who then informed the Spokane Valley Police.
She avoided incarceration but was sentenced to two years of probation, ordered to pay $700 in fines, and required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
