According to a divorce lawyer, there’s a significant error men are making in marriages that leads to their breakdown.
If you’ve experienced numerous break-ups and make-ups, and are now trying to navigate a period of singlehood, figure out exactly what you want, or understand how to enter another relationship without ruining it, then this is for you.
Sara J. Corcoran, a divorce lawyer from Corcoran Family Law in New Jersey, shares advice on the firm’s TikTok page. Although, it’s important to note the page states it’s ‘not legal advice,’ which can be slightly confusing. One video highlights the ‘number one mistake’ men are making in marriages.
In a post shared in July, Corcoran explains: “The number one mistake men make in marriage from a divorce lawyer.
“A spouse who never participates in household chores often breeds resentment in the other spouse.
“There’s not going to then be one incident which results in some extreme fight that ends the marriage, it’s a slow burn.
“So my advice to you guys out there if you want to stay married is empty the dishwasher every once in a while.”
This topic has sparked a lot of discussion among viewers.
One TikTok user commented: “A lot of guys turn their wife into their mother then are shocked when she wants a divorce.”
“I love when my husband does chores without me saying anything,” another added.
However, some men expressed their frustration in the discussion.
One user said: “That’s not a mistake. that’s a woman who wants you to do everything.”
“Number one mistake we make is getting married biggest mistake we make of our lives why would any man want to do that,” another wrote.
If you needed further evidence, look no further than Katy Perry’s comments about her fiancé Orlando Bloom and the impact of him doing chores.

During a guest appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the ‘Firework’ singer shared a revealing detail about her relationship with Bloom.
She said: “If I come downstairs and the kitchen is clean, and you’ve done it all, and you’ve done all the dishes, and you’ve closed all the pantry doors, you better be ready to get your d**k sucked.”
There you have it, now you can ponder the pros and cons of sharing a household with a partner.
