Doctor shares 10-minute power nap method favored by Navy SEALs for feeling revitalized

The Navy SEALs employ a 10-minute power nap technique that promises an immediate “quick energy boost,” and it’s even supported by a medical professional.

During the hectic period leading up to Christmas, finding enough time for sufficient sleep is challenging, so the concept of a quick 10-minute energy-boosting method is appealing.

Last month, Dr. Joe shared this strategy on TikTok, stating that “many of our elite forces swear by” it.

To practice the technique, position yourself at the edge of a bed or couch, then lie down with your back on the floor and your legs elevated on the furniture.

Dr. Joe explains that assuming this posture with your legs elevated achieves two benefits.

“First, it’s going to reduce swelling in your legs as well as return blood flow to your core – both of which are going to trigger relaxation,” he noted. “Second, by limiting the time to 10 minutes, you’re going to wake up during the light phase of sleep and therefore wake up feeling refreshed.”

The accompanying caption states: “Studies show that short naps improve alertness and mood without the grogginess of deeper sleep. This trick is ideal for a fast reset when you’re low on time, helping you feel refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of your day.”

Social media users quickly responded to the post, sharing their thoughts.

One TikTok user commented, “If only it didn’t take me 3hrs to fall asleep I could enjoy a 10 min nap. The relaxation looks nice though.”

Another expressed, “I’d like to know HOW to fall asleep once I close my eyes. It’s a minimum 30-60 min no matter how exhausted I am. seriously, how do people just… sleep?”

A third user joked, “It will take me 30 minutes to get back up off the floor for that 10 minute nap.”

A fourth participant noted: “When my back is out I do this for 15 minutes 2-3 times a day and usually by day two I am back to 100 percent. And apparently rested!”

Finally, a fifth user, who appears to have tried the method, shared: “Spouse said I was out in under nine minutes, a deep sleep.”

Whether or not one can truly fall asleep in such an unconventional position is another question entirely.

Nevertheless, Sleep Advisor suggests using an adjustable bed or mattress to assist.
